SABR will sponsor "alternative commuter" breakfasts in communities all around the Seacoast May 15. Commuters who leave their cars at home that day can enjoy breakfast in downtown Portsmouth at Popovers Restaurant; Pease Tradeport at Manchester Square; Stratham Industrial Park at Timberland; Exeter at the bandstand; Dover at Henry Law Park; Milton at Veterans Park; Lee at Stevens Field, North Hampton at Gus' International Bike Shop, and Durham at the Whittemore Center. See this map for exact locations. "Bicycling is part of the solution to a range of issues: the rising cost of gasoline, rising obesity rates, greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and traffic congestion," said Josh Pierce, president of SABR. "Here on the Seacoast, we're blessed with relatively flat terrain, stunning scenery, and several great public transportation options, making car-free commuting a great idea." Again this year, SABR will organize guided rides from a variety of popular commuting destinations. "We'd hate for someone to stick with the car habit just because they're not sure of the safest, fastest way to ride," said Pierce. 2009 will also be the 3rd Annual Corporate Commuter Challenge event to add some friendly competition to Bike/Walk to Work Day. The event challenges Seacoast employers to compete to see who could have the most employees ride or walk to work between May 11th and May 15th. If you'd like to get your company involved this year please contact us here, we'll tell you all about the corporate challenge event and get you all the support materials you need (flyers, posters, fact-sheets) to promote the event at your company!
