Seacoast Area Bicycle Routes has been successful in the development of cycling network around Great Bay and the surrounding communities. For the past three years, SABR has hosted a bicycling event on the Pease International Tradeport at the Redhook Ale Brewery in Portsmouth, NH. There is no other cycling event like this in the region and the event continues to grow in both size and scope.
The event was hosted, for the first two years, as a fundraiser geared to help finance the construction of the Rockingham Bicycle Pedestrian Bridge. The fundraising efforts were an obvious success as the bridge is now a sight for all to behold.
This year there will be kids events, a bicycle rodeo, guided rides around Pease, raffle prizes, a 25 mile Seacoast Bike Tour, and informational booths running all day long. The Jumbo Circus Peanuts, an eclectic mix of 14 musicians playing everything from jazz classics to funk will be playing a benefit concert from 8-11 that night.
The following organizations will be in the garden sharing their information with the public:
- American Lands Alliance,
- American Lung Association,
- City Year New Hampshire,
- Clean Water Action,
- East Coast Greenways Alliance,
- Granite Sports Magazine,
- Nicolin Fields Publishing,
- Perpetual Motion,
- Pro Portsmouth,
- Rockingham Planning Commission,
- Seacoast Area Bicycle Routes, and the
- Seacoast Criterium.
We were all fortunate to have such great people in our midst.
Our goals are to educate the next generation of cyclists that will be growing up in the Seacoast Communities. We have numerous programs that will be in place in the coming year to realize these goals.
